Avocado Salad Ingredients

This Healthy Salad Recipe is one of my favorites as a complementary side or healthy appetizer during summer. This salad is made with Avocados, Tomatoes, Onions, Cilantro, and a light lemon and olive oil dressing.

  • English Cucumber – For this recipe, use thin-skinned cucumbers. But it’s okay to use any Garden Cucumber and peel the skin before using it in the salad. Just cut the cucumbers in half and throw away the large seeds if there is any for a better result. Cucumbers are high in water content that, makes up about 95%.
  • Tomatoes – Ripe and Juicy tomatoes are the best for this salad. Cherry tomatoes can also be used as a substitute. Tomatoes contain antioxidant properties and are rich in vitamin C, Potassium, Vitamin K, and folate.
  • Avocados – Pick the ripe avocados that are neither too soft nor too hard. Cut the avocados into bite-sized pieces as the inside is very soft and can be broken when mixed with other ingredients. Avocados may be helpful in weight loss due to their high fiber and protein content. Fiber helps keep you feeling full longer, while protein helps curb appetite and increase muscle mass.
  • Red Onion – Chop the red onions into small pieces or as you desire. Before adding the onions to this healthy salad, sprinkle some salt and rest for 5 minutes. Rinse the onions well before adding them to the salad. This little tip will help preserve the flavor and minimize the harsh, lingering aftertaste.
  • Lemon Juice – A bit tangy Lemon dressing brings all the ingredients together and makes the Avocado Salad more flavourful. If you don’t find Lemon Juice, Lime can be a great alternative.
  • Olive Oil – One to two tbsps of Extra Virgin Olive oil will be enough. Mix Olive oil with lemon juice, salt, and pepper before mixing the other ingredients.
  • Cilantro – Use Cilantro as a herb. But you can use any other herb if you don’t like cilantro.
  • Salt & Pepper – Add Salt and Pepper to your taste.

How to Make Avocado Salad

salad bowl
  1. Make the Avocado Salad Dressing- in a small mixing bowl whisk together lemon juice, extra virgin oil, cilantro, salt, and pepper to taste.
  2. Add Veggies and Fruits into the salad – Toss all the cut veggies and fruits into the Avocado salad dressing and mix it well.
  3. Serve – Transfer salad to a serving dish and enjoy.

Avocado Salad Tip

Serve the Avocado Salad straight away as it turns brown very quickly and starts to break down.
A second reason to serve the salad immediately is that the salt in the dressing will begin to draw moisture from the tomatoes and cucumbers.

What to serve with it?

This salad is so quick and straightforward that you can serve it as a side dish, as an appetizer with tortilla chips, baked chicken, Salmon, roasted red potatoes, rice, and grilled shrimps.
